Overview
Fortune House in Central London required a full refurbishment of its ageing pitched roof system, which had exceeded its service life by several decades. Working closely with Axis and the managing consultants, we delivered a durable Langley copper roofing solution designed to improve waterproofing performance, support newly installed solar panels, and extend the building’s long-term resilience while residents remained safely in place throughout the works
The Challenge
The existing roof was over 30–40 years old and beginning to fail, with fragile fibre-board decking discovered beneath the original coverings. In addition to replacing the roof, structural strengthening was required to safely accommodate the added weight of new PV panels. The building remained fully occupied during the works, requiring careful access planning, safe torch-zones, and strict fire compliance controls throughout construction. Programme timings were also extended as additional works were identified during delivery.
Our Solution
We installed a Langley-approved copper roofing build-up, including HT180 nailed underlay, SVV underlay, and copper veral capsheet to provide long-term protection and an enhanced aesthetic finish.
Substrate repairs and timber strengthening were carried out in line with structural engineer guidance to ensure the roof could safely support the PV installation.
Access and scaffolding were managed by the managing consultants, with clear walkways maintained to minimise disruption to residents. Langley provided inspection and full system sign-off upon completion, ensuring guaranteed performance and compliance.
